Montana Announces Lowest Cohort Default Rate in the Country-The Montana University System’s Guaranteed Student Loan Program (MGSLP), today announced an official cohort default rate of 1.8% for the 2008 federal fiscal year, the lowest cohort default rate in the country and a record low for MGSLP.
The United States Department of Education recently announced a national cohort default rate of seven (7.0) percent. At just 1.8%, the Montana default rate is almost one fourth of the national average. Read More
Montana Student Loan Defaults Continue to Decline- In an exciting one-two combination, the Montana Guaranteed Student Loan Program (MGSLP) today announced an amazingly low .49% trigger rate for federal fiscal year 2009. Earlier this month, MGSLP announced a historical low draft cohort default rate of just 1.8%. Unlike cohort default rates that measure the number of student loan defaults, trigger rates measure the dollars defaulted. MGSLP’s trigger rate is less than one half of one percent making it the lowest in the United States. Download

The Montana Guaranteed Student Loan Program (MGSLP) offers the following eight tips to students and their parents who will be filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2008-2009 academic year. 2006 Cohort Default Rate
The Montana Guaranteed Student Loan Program (MGSLP) is pleased to announce a 24% decrease in Montana’s student loan cohort default rate. The rate dropped from 6.8% in 2003 to 5.2% for 2004, the most recent dates for which data is available. The national average cohort default rate is 5.1%. Download
